Our lecture today was about the evolution of type over time from hieroglyphics to modern type, from chisels to pens, to moveable type. Due to the invention of papyrus and the first illustrated manuscript, words and pictures were combined to communicate. The Chinese also contributed calligraphy, relief printing, a system of moveable type, and the invention of paper. There were so many alphabets the Phonetic Alphabet, Greek Alphabet, Latin, and Roman. Over the years not only did the alphabet itself change but so did the type style. Blocky and smooched together to airy, open and modern  by the 1700's.

Christianity, and the bible were a major factor in type style. Roman empire collapsed the "dark" ages arose christianity became a sacred religion. With the evolution of the bible, it became smaller over time more pocket size. With the pretty embellishments around the pages of the illuminates Rococo style arose with the Romain Due Roi which was the kings alphabet. Modern type arose and abandoned humanism.
